The ancient Venado Caves are a geological marvel, shaped by tectonic shifting and an underground river. The Venado Caverns, a 2,700 meter stretch of limestone caves replete with stalactite and stalagmite formations, are ideal for a day-trip from nearby Arenal. The caverns, believed to be between 15 and 20 million years old, were formed by underground streams which still run through the caves.

Going deep into the insides of the earth is possible with this tour. Underground trails will lead us through grottos and chambers exploring the world indifferent to light.

With flashlights to light our way and all the gear for the adventure, we will enter into this labyrinth of ancient underground rivers and seabed’s, exposed now after thousands of millions of years. We will visit rock formations with names like, “the birthing canal”, “the papaya”, “the coral”, “the altar”, as well as the numerous rock formations called stalactites and stalagmites are very common inside the caves, some hanging from the rocks overhead, and others surging up from the ground. A great colony of bats inhabits the caves, as well as spiders and crabs.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Hiking shoes or tennis shoes, long pants, insect repellent, change of clothes and towel.

(3) A client must cancel at least 48 hours in advance if they wish to cancel. Any reservation made less than 48 hours in advance must be canceled at least 8 hours in advance. (4) In the case of a cancellation by the tour operator, a refund will be offered to participating guests. (5) Selina is not responsible for any property or items lost during the tour. (6) For some tours / transportation / rental equipment, clients are required to sign a waiver at the Selina property.
